When choosing a college, it is important to directly hear from students how it is like. Just looking at statistics is not enough because learning how to teachers are and how the students act should be a huge factor in determining the right college. The most important part of a college experience is the teachers. You go to college to learn so you want to make sure you are being taught by the right people. Rather than looking for the best looking place, the most popular place, or the place your friends are going to, it is important to look for a place with teachers who are motivating, passionate, and caring.
Students who have motivating teachers who encourage students to chase their dreams are the students who are successful later on. College is the time when you prepare for a job and many don't know exactly what job they are going to pursue. Because college students are young, they need more experienced advice. Professors should be inspiring and be able to help students with career choices. This is why I agree that colleges and universities need to hire professors who care about their students and their students futures. And I believe it is crucial that you learn about the colleges professors before choosing the right college for you.

You focus a lot on the students' perspective and I agree that it is very important in this matter. Incoming freshman have never experienced anything quite like college before and teachers leave a huge impression.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree that colleges need to hire professors who actually care about their students, but I simply just don't know how someone might distinguish from a college's caring professors and non-caring professors from a distance when searching for colleges to attend. Ah- hopefully we will all figure it out!
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting how you focused on the students' thoughts, more of the survey mentioned in the article. I agree with your analysis that a caring professor is ideal, if only institutions would realize the success of the nation-- not the wealth and prestige of their school-- is the true goal for a successful, bright future.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you zeroed in on the importance of student's needs and thoughts, and how important of a factor it is in the success of an institution. I certainly agree with your assertion that professors make all the difference when choosing a college that will help you formulate your future!!
ReplyDeleteI like the way that you are looking more at a different type of risk, and an actual solution away from just trusting the numbers and the prestige, which is what most individuals focus on today. I hope that all students take your advice in the different way to find the right college experience them for themselves.
ReplyDeleteI like how you understand that colleges need to care about their students. It is true that the status of the school does not matter but rather what is in the best interest of the student. It is their future that is on the line and I hope that they do their best to take care of it.
